Woman's headless body found in Munirka building sewer

A local resident, who lives with his family in a neighbouring building, owns the building from which the body was recovered. It has 31 rooms, all rented out to students and working youngsters.

The headless body of an unidentified woman stuffed in a bag was found inside the sewer of a building in south Delhi's Munirka area on Friday night, the police said on Saturday.

"The body so decomposed that initially it was difficult to establish whether it was a man or a woman," a senior police officer said. The woman had a tattoo of a leaf on her neck, the officer said, adding that they were trying to establish the identity of the woman.

A local resident, who lives with his family in a neighbouring building, owns the building from which the body was recovered. It has 31 rooms, all rented out to students and working youngsters.

According to the police, the residents of the building noticed a foul smell coming from the ground floor, following the police control room was informed. A police team reached the spot around 8pm on Friday and removed the lid of the sewer to find a black polybag with the woman's body.

During interrogation, it was revealed that four rooms in the building had been locked for the last few days. The police are now preparing a list of the tenants and the nearby residents to zero down on those missing for the last 10 days.

Meanwhile, a case of murder has been registered against the unidentified person/s at the Vasant Vihar police station. On Saturday, the Delhi Police also constituted 10 teams comprising three members each to ascertain the identity of the deceased.
