The Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has arrested a criminal wanted in several high-profile cases, including kidnappings for ransom, dacoity, attempts to murder, attacks on police teams, and robberies in Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region (NCR). The UP police had declared a cash reward on his arrest. A loaded weapon was recovered from his possession, cops said.

According to cops, the accused was identified as Jitender Choudhary alis Jeetu alias Jat, 24, a resident of Hathras in UP and a member of the infamous Ajay Jadeja gang. He carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest. Jeetu was also involved in a sensational kidnapping for ransom case, wherein two business tycoons and jewellers of Jhansi were abducted and a ransom of Rs 25 crore was demanded for their release. He was previously involved in more than 12 criminal cases, including kidnappings, dacoity, attempts to murder, attacks on police teams, and possession of illegal firearms.

Crime Branch DCP Dr Joy Tirkey said Jeetu was arrested following a tip-off from near a CNG pump on the main Kanjhawla Road in Sector 21, Rohini. Police said that on seeing the police party, Jeetu pulled out his loaded pistol to scare the cops away and attempted to escape, but was chased and overpowered.

“During interrogation, Jeetu disclosed that he was previously arrested by the UP Police in seven cases of attempts to murder, robberies, and under the Arms Act, including a sensational dacoity of Rs 50 lakh in Agra.

He was released from jail in December 2016, after which he joined the Ajay Jadeja gang. Jeetu and his aide Vinod Jat, on the instructions of Jadeja, abducted Jhansi-based prominent businessmen Raju Kamraya and Rahul Agarwal while they were on their way to a badminton court on July 12 this year. The duo wore police uniforms while committing the crime and later, the gang demanded Rs 25 crore for the victim’s release,” he said.
