The Swachh Bharat Mission anniversary was observed by various institutions and groups across the National Capital Region (NCR) on Monday, through fun-filled activities and awareness programmes.

Besides, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shashri on their birth anniversary, at a function organised at Vidhan Sabha. "I bow to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shashri. Both of them lived inspirational lives. We should try and mold their ideas in our lives," he later tweeted.

In a bid to commemorate the Swachhta Diwas, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) released a booklet, titled 'Segregation of Waste at Source'. It was released by Puneet Kumar Goel, officiating Chairperson of the NDMC.

He also distributed Swachhta Awards to organisations and participants, such as Gymkhana Club, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Pandara Road Market Association, RWA Laxmibai Nagar, Nehru Park, and four NDMC schools, on the basis of their contribution in terms of swachhta initiatives undertaken during the year in New Delhi area.

Meanwhile, the civic body also dropped curtains on the Swacchta Pakhwada, following which the team NDMC, RWAs, MTAs, shopkeepers, NGOs, and other volunteers had contributed their Shramdaan at Connaught Place in New Delhi area.

Also, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, led by DIG Srikant Kishore, took part in the Swachchhata Hi Sewa drive. As many as 359 personnel took part in the drive at Bagdola village of Sector 8, Dwarka. The drive started at 8 am, wherein senior CISF personnel interacted with civilians and officials from South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to enlist their cooperation in keeping the area clean.

The unit also adopted a park in the area and it was decided that CISF personnel will assemble there on every second and fourth Thursday to join hands with the locals and municipal workers to ensure that the area is clean and green.

The hospitals in the city were not to be left behind. At Dr Ram Monohar Lohia Hospital, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Ashwini Kumar Chaubey, was the Chief Guest for the closing ceremony. The minister emphasised the importance of cleanliness and requested people to not litter.

A Swachh Bharat Pakhwada was organised at the Lady Hardinge Medical College, where staff members who contributed towards maintaining cleanliness were awarded. Sulabh workers were acknowledged and appreciated for their work and Medical Director, Superintendent and FORDA President gave speeches to continue to maintain cleanliness in the hospital premises.

Terming it Swachh Swasth Jeevan Diwas, AIIMS organised Swachhta Awards, 2017, and screened the movie 'Toilet- Ek Prem Katha'.

Schools in Noida's Gautam Budh Nagar also took up the mission to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary.
