Even after making an emergency landing, the airline refused to accept that smoke was coming out of the cabin
After smoke inside the cabin was noticed onboard, an IndiGo plane carrying 170 passengers made an emergency landing immediately after taking off from the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi. The incident took place on Wednesday at 5.20 am.
Sources at the airport stated that the flight number 6E-719 of IndiGo Airlines to Vishakhapatnam took off from IGI airport at returned 10 minutes later after passengers started complaining of smoke inside the cabin. "There was also a drop in cabin pressure leading to oxygen masks being automatically deployed," said the source.
Even after making an emergency landing, the airline refused to accept that smoke was coming out of the cabin. In a statement, IndiGo stated that it was a "false alarm" over a "burning smell" in the cabin. However, keeping passenger safety in mind, a "precautionary landing" was made.
According to an IndiGo spokesperson: "IndiGo flight 6E-719 (Delhi-Visakhapatnam) carried out a precautionary landing at Delhi on Wednesday due to a false alarm. After take-off from Delhi, the cabin crew advised flight crew about a burning smell in the cabin. Keeping the safety and security of passengers in mind, the captain-in-command informed the ATC and carried out a precautionary landing at Delhi."
The statement also added that after the plane returned to Delhi it was inspected thoroughly and "no oil leakages or electrical burn residues were identified."
In another incident, a man who flew on an international IndiGo flight filed a police complaint alleging that the crew refused to accept payment in Indian currency for the food he bought.
