The body of a seven-year-old boy was found in a drain a week after he was reported missing. The boy had drowned in an open drain in Northwest Delhi's Wazirpur area, the police said.

The boy's body was found in the drain by some children in the area at around 10:30 in morning. The police have suspected that he may have fallen down while playing and in absence of help the boy drowned.

There were no external injuries on the boy's body and the doctors have indicated that the death likely was due to drowning, said an investigator.

"It was at around 7 pm on Saturday when the boy was last seen with his family. However, after some time when his family tried to trace him, they failed. Although we were investigating the case as that of kidnapping our efforts had not yielded results," the police said.

The boy identified as Ankush lived with his parents in a slum in the Wazirpur Industrial Area. His father works at a factory in the neighbourhood and his mother works as domestic help in a bungalow nearby.
