Two days after a 19-year-old boy was stabbed to death by his childhood friend in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar area, the CCTV footage recovered from one of the cameras installed at a shop revealed that on-lookers had gathered around to watch, and did not provide any help the victim. The area where the incident took place is a crowded marketplace but despite that, no one stepped forward while the accused was being thrashed and stabbed by his friend.
According to the police, the accused Babban was a childhood friend of the victim Junaid. "On Friday, they met after offering prayers at a local mosque near their colony. Locals revealed that the duo were having a friendly conversation, which soon turned violent and Junaid was pushed by the accused," said a police officer.
The CCTV footage shows cars stopping as the whole incident unfolded. The victim was seen running to save his life as Babban chased him and pulled him back before finally stabbing him to death. The police rushed Junaid to a nearby hospital but he was declared dead on arrival. The police arrested Babban based on eyewitness's accounts. The murder weapon and the blood-stained clothes were recovered from his possession.
During interrogation, Babban confessed that he was planning to flee to Gujarat and start a new life but was apprehended by the police before he could do so.
