A community policing scheme 'Prahari' was launched by Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik on Friday in South-West District. This scheme has been introduced with a view to prevent crime and maintain law and order in Delhi.
Under this scheme, civil personnel such as chowkidars and security guards deployed in the commercial and VIP areas will act as the eyes and ears of the police.
The move will help to bring professionalism in the work of security guards by giving them appropriate training and enabling frequent police-Prahari interaction and co-operation.
Joint CP, New Delhi Range Ajay Chaudhry said that so far 701 chowkidars/security guards have been registered as 'Praharis'. Three-day special training course was conducted for Praharis at training hall, police station Delhi Cantt.
Commissioner of Police Delhi, Amulya Patnaik inspected the parade march of the "Praharis". All the praharis were given oath for their cooperation with local police in maintenance of law and order & crime prevention in the area. CP, Delhi also gave away certificates and cash awards to 10 Praharis who have done remarkable work.
