There was panic at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday night when a caller informed that there were explosives on a flight scheduled for Hong Kong and that if he gave more details, he would be killed.
The message sparked panic among security agencies and the entire airport had to be sanitised. The identified aircraft also underwent a thorough check and only after three hours the situation was declared normal and the call as a hoax.
According to senior CISF officers, the call was received around 11.30 pm at the airport operator's Gurgaon-based call centre and the message was soon conveyed. "The caller had said, I overheard some people talking that a plane going to Hong Kong, has explosive on it...I just wanted to share to you...I can't give you any other details. There is explosive on that plane...people are going to die," an officer said.
