Ensure sanitation workers get salary

BJP national secretary and Member of Parliament Maheish Girri knocked at the doors of the Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal on Friday, requesting him to intervene to ensure salaries for East Delhi Municipal Corporation sanitation workers are paid. Girri alleged that the Delhi government is deliberately not giving salary to them.

The BJP national secretary also requested the LG to interfere in the matter and to ensure the salaries of the sanitation workers are released. “Delhi government must immediately release salaries of sanitation workers of east Delhi civic body,” Girri said. 

In January 2017, sanitation workers went on a strike demanding that their salaries be released. Various sanitation workers’ associations have threatened that if their salary for three months and arrears are not fully paid, they will continue with their strike. But the corporation managed to convince them and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had then released Rs 119 crore funds for the salary.

But the workers have said that the Rs 119 crore package released by the AAP government was not enough, and at least Rs 500 crore more was needed to pay all the dues back to them. 

Girri also raised other issues like the water crisis in Delhi and requested for a speedy remedy.
