Speaking about the tragedy, neighbours say the scientist's sister had gradually undergone mental stress while her brother had been sick for a few years. As far as possessions are concerned, a car used by the scientist bought more than 10 years ago, remains intact, almost unused. Their neighbours also said that the servant quarters had been allotted to the scientist by a former director of the Institute seeing the family's condition.

Locals also claimed that the mental health of Dr Yashvir Sood was not good as he had not withdrawn a single penny of his pension as well as gratuity funds. Moreover, the trio's interaction with the neighbours was almost zero, especially after retirement.

Speaking about the family, one of the gatekeepers of the campus, Kiran said, "Dr Sood was a respected personality in the campus, but his brother's mental health was so bad that on many occasions he would run naked on the campus lanes and we had to borrow clothes from neighbours to cover his body." Meanwhile, neighbours living near their house complained that the Sood family was never bothered about cleanliness. "Kamla (the sister) would clean the area and would then throw the garbage again just for fun. Many times we complained to Dr Sood as they used to litter in the open," said Ishwar, one of their neighbours.

In the meantime, both Kamla and Harish have been admitted to Institute of Human Behaviour & Allied Sciences.
