Delhi University's law student commits suicide

According to the police, the deceased has been identified of Swati Sahni, a native of Kankhal, Haridwar.

A 21-year-old law student of Delhi University allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a fan in her room of a paying guest accommodation in Sector 27 on Sunday night. Police said that initial probe has revealed that she had fight with a male friend before allegedly committing the act, However no suicide note has been recovered. Police have informed the family was informed and the body was sent for autopsy. No case has been registered.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified of Swati Sahni, a native of Kankhal, Haridwar. She lived with a roommate who was away at the time of the incident.

"The incident came to light around 11pm on Sunday when Swati failed to answer her roommate's call at night. Her roommate asked the cook to check on her. When Swati did not respond to repeated knocks on the door, the cook peeped in through a window and saw her hanging from the fan after which he alerted the landlord," said a senior police officer.

Police said that the owner made a police control room call and a team reached the spot, broke the door open and brought the body down. Body has been sent for autopsy while the family has been informed.

"During probe it came to light that Swati had a loud argument with someone on the phone. It seems that she was having a fight with a man she had befriended on social media sometime ago. From her WhatsApp chats, it seems that he had not been responding to her calls," said the officer.

Police said that so far, the family has not given any formal complaint. We will register the case if they file one. The body will be handed over to them after the autopsy.
