The Delhi High Court today directed the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) to submit a status report on a plea seeking demolition of an "illegal" mall in Kirti Nagar here.

A division bench of justices B D Ahmed and Siddharth Mridul directed NDMC to file the report by November 19 and tagged others matters relating to unauthorised constructions along with it. "File status report," the bench said.

The court was hearing a plea by NGO Pardarshita Public Welfare Foundation which alleged that the land, which falls under the jurisdiction of NDMC, was originally sanctioned for a steel tank factory.

It alleged that the owner has not taken any permission or approval of sanctioned building plan to use it as a mall in the name of Moments Mall in Kirti Nagar. It claimed that it is neither approved by the competent authority nor regularised by NDMC.

The NGO has said that it has written to NDMC Commissioner in this regard but no action has so far been initiated. "Direct NDMC to demolish the illegal and unauthorised construction in TOTO (Total Complete Structure & Building) in property no 67 DIT Industrial Area Kirti Nagar which falls in the jurisdiction of Karol Bagh Zone of North Delhi Municipal Corporation," the plea said.
