While the summer has arrived early in the Capital, so has the water crisis. To tackle the problem, the Delhi government is likely to come out with its summer action plan this season earlier than expected.

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is expected to announce the action plan within this week, sources said. However, unlike every year, the action plan's focus will not be on increasing the number of water tankers, rather on improving efficiency and faster redressal of complaints. Usually, every summer, the action plan is rolled out around June. "The number of unauthorised colonies having piped supply has increased to over 200. The number of tankers which uses to supply water here will be reduced automatically. In areas where tankers are still required, we will improve the efficiency of services as well as control leakages so that there is no crisis at all," said DJB vice-chairman, Dinesh Mohaniya. The DJB officials have been holding meetings with the MLAs to take stock of the status of water supply in every constituency.

"We have a draft ready. It will be finalised The focus will be on maintenance and repair issues to conserve water," said a senior officer.
