Delhi Crime Branch arrests bootlegger, seizes 453 cartons of spurious liquor

The Crime Branch seized 453 cartons of spurious liquor with the arrest of a bootlegger, Ali Ajgar on Saturday. The team recovered more than 26000 bottles of beer and alcohol from the accused.

A case under Section 33/58 of Delhi Excise Act has been registered.

The police were given a tip off, that Ajgar would come with a shipment of spurious liquor from Haryana to supply in various areas of North Delhi. A team was constituted to nab the accused under the overall supervision of DCP Bhisham Singh. The Crime Branch laid a trap in jungles of Palla-Bakhtawarpur Road and the accused was apprehended while on his way to Delhi.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he is working for another bootlegger, Vikas, who is absconding and was previously arrested by the Delhi Police in similar cases.

The police said that Ajgar, who is resident of Bakoli area in Delhi has been bootlegging for the last two years and was arrested twice this year. He used to procure illicit liquor "only for sale in Haryana" from different godowns in Sonepat and supplied the same to various other bootleggers in different colonies in Delhi after taking a hefty margin.

He also revealed the name of the wine shop owner who has L-1 shop near Delhi border in Haryana and supplies liquor to bootleggers of Saroop Nagar and Jahangir Puri area in Delhi.

According to the police, one carton containing 12 bottles of liquor was purchased for Rs 500 from Haryana, which was then sold for Rs 1000 to 1500 per carton.

INTERROGATION REVEALED

During interrogation, the accused Ali Ajgar disclosed that he is working for another bootlegger, Vikas, who is absconding and was previously arrested by the Delhi Police in similar cases.
