Delhi police on Saturday said that they have stepped up the security in the party hub Hauz Khas village, in view of recent incidents of terror attacks on foreign tourists in various European countries. Senior police officers said that the police have also requested the Delhi government's Excise Department to conduct a drive to check and curb incidents of liquor being served to persons below 25 years of age.

DCP (South) Ishwar Singh said that Hauz Khas Village sees a large number of foreigners everyday who visit the area for fine dining or to visit art galleries. Furthermore, he added, the traffic unit of Delhi Police has been requested to deploy teams to check drunken driving incidents which result in road accidents.

The recent measures have been taken two days after a woman had alleged via her Twitter account that she witnessed a group of men attempting to abduct a woman who was accompanying her drunken male friend. However, no FIR could be registered in this matter since the girl did not approach the police or give any complaint.

In February this year, a north-eastern woman was raped by an employee of a bar in Hauz Khas Village after the accused's aide took the victim's friend away from her. The woman was taken to a secluded area in Deer Park where the man raped her.
