Home buyers in the national capital can finally expect to apply for the over 13,148 flats on offer under the Delhi Development Authority's (DDA) new housing scheme by May-end.
The scheme which was initially set to be launched on January 26 has been delayed for multiple factors including demonetization, lack of connectivity to areas where the flats were proposed and Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections.
Officials from the DDA said that they were waiting for the Lieutenant governor Anil Baijal's nod for floating the scheme.
"The LG is to have a meeting with the housing officials by the end of this month in which his approval is likely to come," said a senior DDA official.
The housing authority has tied up with 10 banks for sale of application forms and payment of fee.
The application process would be both manual and online, said officials.
Most of these flats are those which remained unoccupied in the 2014 scheme while over 2,000 others are those which have been vacated by people.
The flats are available in different parts of the city including Dwarka in southwest, Rohini and Pitampura in northwest, Vasant Kunj, Jasola and Sarita Vihar in south Delhi, Dilshad Garden in the northeast, Mukherjee Nagar in the north and Narela in outer Delhi.
DDA flats may be a boon for Delhiites as affordable housing is the need of the hour
However, poor construction and infrastructure have marred such attempts in the past. Allottees have even surrendered houses as a result
