Bus runs over 19-year-old student at Moolchand flyover

A 19-year-old BSc student was crushed under a bus at Moolchand flyover in southeast Delhi when she was going to attend her computer classes in Lajpat Nagar on her scooter on Friday, at 9.30 am. The errant driver was caught by the public and handed over to the police.

The deceased has been identified as Kajal Mandal, a student of Delhi University. Family members of the deceased said that according to the onlookers, a speeding chartered bus hit Kajal's scooter from behind, following which she lost her balance and fell off her two-wheeler.

"They said that when Kajal fell down, the driver applied the brakes but could not stop the bus from running over her. She came under the front wheels. She was rushed to Moolchand hospital where the doctors declared her dead. Police arrived and registered a case against the accused and the body was sent for a post-mortem examination," said Vishal, Kajal's younger brother.

Kajal's father is an employee at Japanese Embassy while her mother works as a clerk at the Ministry of Defence. Family members said that Kajal wanted to become a doctor. Police said that the driver, who was identified as Harilal, was booked for rash driving and for causing death due to negligence under IPC section 304 A.

"We were informed by the police that such an incident has taken place. We rushed to the hospital and found her dead," a family member said.
