Despite people sitting glued to their television screens all across the country to see Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presenting the Union Budget in Parliament on Thursday morning — the last full budget of the Modi government before elections — some members of Delhi's upper class had a surprisingly ambivalent attitude towards the Budget.

For Pankush Arora, COO of a consulting company, and resident of an colony in Greater Noida, it was business as usual. Talking to DNA, Arora admitted that the Budget did not affect his daily life much. However, certain initiatives put forth by the FM gave him reason to cheer. Arora who has plans to start his own organisation, said that the government's plans to deliver company registrations in a day time, will be a great boon for thousands of businessmen like him.

On the non-business front, Arora was also happy about the fact that he can now plan his next trip to Europe with his parents, who till now did not have passports. "The government's announcement that passports will be delivered at one's doorstep in two or three days ensures that I can plan my trip soon," he said.

However, not everything pleased him. The rise in customs duty, he says, may cause him to think twice before buying gadgets for his family."My only concern is that they have increased customs duty on mobile phones and accessories by 15-20 percent. These are my favorite gifts for my loved ones every time I travel abroad, now I may think before I carry them," says Arora.

"But I am glad that with 'UDAN' initiative, more airports will come into action and thus with increased airport capacity, there will be more flights and the price may also come down due to competition," Arora, who is a frequent flyer, added.

Pankush and his wife, Tina, who is the principal of a primary school in Greater Noida, are also happy that they have got rid of the crypto-currency they had bought earlier as the Finance Minister announced that the crypto-currencies tender or coins will not be considered legal. In fact, the government will take strict measures to eliminate use of crypto-assets in financing illegitimate activities or as part of the payment system.
