On winter evenings in December, BJP MPs may spend some time reaching out to voters in Delhi. With the party trying to leave no stone unturned in its battle for Delhi, it is roping in its MPs from all states to connect with people in the demographically diverse Capital.

The party has asked all its 325 MPs, who are here to attend the winter session of Parliament, to hold at least small six gatherings each in the city in the evenings, after the House adjourns for the day, sources said. The BJP has 282 MPs in Lok Sabha and 44 in Rajya Sabha, including the council of ministers and Speaker.

This would mean a total of over 2000 small gatherings would be held from December 1 to 20, coinciding with the session which ends on December 23. The party has already worked out the modalities and a format has been distributed to MPs seeking their choice of places and dates, the sources said. If the member does not come up with proposals, the party will decide on the locality for the campaign, depending on where the MP is from, they said.

The details will be sent to party president Amit Shah, who is working out the strategy for the Delhi elections, and he will discuss them with the local unit.

"When MPs move around, it will mobilise our workers and motivate the people. We have 2,700 Shahri Shakti kendras. We want one MP to hold at least two meetings each day," said BJP vice-president and in-charge of Delhi, Prabhat Jha. However, he said the exercise was not caste or region based.

The MPs are not expected to address large rallies but interact in small gatherings of 100-200 people along with the mandal and district office bearers in Delhi, where elections are expected to be held in February.

Barring a few states like Kerala and some in the North East, the BJP has representation from across the country in Parliament.

The BJP, which is working out a Modi-centric strategy and the performance of the NDA government at the Centre like in other states where elections have been held recently, is not planning to project a chief ministerial candidate. Pulling out all the stops to capture Delhi, which it missed by a margin in the last assembly poll, is also focusing on booth management, a tactic that Shah had adopted in other states.
