The Delhi government’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) on Wednesday named Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chief Swati Maliwal in its chargesheet for allegedly recruiting Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters in the panel. Maliwal, however, denied the charges and alleged a political vendetta against her.

According to ACB Chief MK Meena, the anti-corruption body’s action comes after evidence was found that Maliwal allegedly recruited people without authority. “There is evidence that the panel appointed AAP workers without any authority. Further, it also distributed salaries without any approval,” Meena said.

An FIR in this regard was filed based on a complaint by former DCW Chief Barkha Shukla Singh. In her complaint, Singh had alleged that as many as 85 AAP supporters were given jobs in DCW without requisite credentials.

“It was found that due procedure was not followed in appointments. Further, the investigation revealed as many as 91 appointments were made without following the due process,” said an ACB official.

Maliwal, however, said the ACB filed the chargesheet in a haste and that the anti-corruption body was being used by some political leaders for personal purposes. “We received a notice from ACB seeking some files from us on Wednesday morning. Then they filed the chargesheet without the files on the same day. We are being targeted,” she said.

Maliwal further alleged that they were being targeted because of the work the DCW was carrying out at the GB Road.

“We were to carry out an operation at the GB Road and had sought help from the Delhi Police and the municipal corporation. We are certain that the brothels at GB Road are being protected by some political leadership. Also, we are currently analysing three cases against a leader from a big political party. These are the reasons why the chargesheet has been filed,” Maliwal said.
