3 sharpshooters held by Special Cell of Delhi Police for plotting to kill RSS leaders

The accused, one of them Afghan, were hired by a Pakistan ISI operative

Three persons, including an Afghan national, having links with the D company have been arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police for planning to eliminate some prominent leaders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in South India.

The accused were hired on the directions of an ISI operative based in Pakistan. Sources said the attack on the right wing leaders were to take place before elections to create unrest in Kerala and Karnataka. The accused persons allegedly took the contract to kill the leaders for Rs 2 crore.

"The accused have been identified as Wali Mohammad Saifi, an Afghan national; Sheikh Riyajuddin alias Raja alias Aalami, a resident of Delhi; and Muhthasim CM alias Thaslim, resident of Kasaragod, Kerala. Mobile phones, two pistols and six live cartridges have been recovered from their possession," said Pramod Kushwah, DCP, Special Cell.

Sources said that the cell received input that Pakistan's ISI has asked Ghulam Rasool, a Pakistan based underworld man who is in touch with the members of the D company, to eliminate VVIPs in Delhi and other parts of the country. Rasool is also stated to be one of the conspirators who had got former Gujarat home minister Haren Pandya killed in 2003.

Wali Mohammad Saifi and Riyajuddin Sheikh were arrested from South Delhi's Saket area on January 11. During investigations it came to the fore that a network of operatives based in Kerala are involved in the conspiracy as well. Following this, Thaslim was arrested from Kasaragod, Kerala with the assistance Kasaragod Police.

During interrogation the accused told the police that Thaslim and Saifi knew each other from before as both of them had their business in Dubai. While one had a liquor business, the other had a restaurant and they became friends.

Thaslim planned to eliminate RSS members in South India, and for this task he roped in Saifi who in turn roped in Riyajuddin and procured weapons. Delhi Police are also looking out for the arms supplier and hunt is on to nab him.
