Australia captain scored his second double century on Saturday as he continued to crush the English bowling attack in the current Ashes series. Smith roared and punched the air as he reached the landmark after more than seven hours of batting. It is his second Test double against England, but his first as captain of Australia.

Earlier on the day, Smith smashed his second century in Ashes 2017-18 on Saturday to become the third fastest to 22 Test centuries in terms of innings taken. Smith took just 108 innings to reach 22 Test centuries and went past India’s legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar who achieved this feat in 114 innings. 

Smith (105 innings) had recently overtaken Tendulkar’s record (110 innings) by becoming the third fastest to 21 Test centuries with a century in the first Ashes Test at the Gabba, Brisbane.

He is also the 9th fastest Australian batsman to 22 Test centuries in number of Tests played. 

Smith’s then went on to score a double hundred, his second, to put Australia in comfortable situation in the first innings in the Perth Test. Smith and Mitchell Marsh, who scored a century, put England on the backfoot as the hosts easily went past vistior's first innings score of 403.
