Fans abuse Nick Compton for insulting Virat Kohli, Aakash Chopra comes to Englishman's defense

Former England batsman Nick Compton copped a fair bit of criticism on Saturday after he took a subtle dig at Indian captain Virat Kohli. Compton, though, was quick to receive support from former India opener turned commentator Aakash Chopra.

It all started when Chopra tweeted in praise of Kohli's hundred during the third ODI against West Indies on Saturday. This was Kohli's third consecutive ODI ton, a feat never achieved by an Indian before.

"Heard that Oxford Dictionary is considering replacing ‘Consistency’ with ‘Kohli’. Makes a lot of sense," he wrote.

Soon enough, Compton put out a rather stinging reply to Chopra's tweet. He questioned the value of Kohli's achievement, considering the strength of the opposition. "Against the West Indies?" Compton replied to Chopra's tweet.

Within no time, Compton was at the receiving end of abuse from Indian fans on Twitter, who posted the Englishman's rather pale records in comparison to that of Kohli's.

Chopra, though, was not going to have any of that and requested the fans to not get personal with Compton and engage in a meaningful discussion.

"Not in good taste, mate. What does his opinion have to do with his stats? Argue with the thought if you must," Chopra replied to a hate message for Compton.

Well, all we'll say is kudos to Chopra for doing the right thing.
