Within days of new pricing plans announced by incumbents including Airtel and Vodafone, new player Reliance Jio on Thursday announced cashback offers of up to Rs 2,599 on every recharge of Rs 399 or above.

Starting this week, existing players including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular have been launching aggressive tariff plans to counter competition by Reliance Jio. All the three telecom firms have announced new pricing plans similar to RJio to maintain their user base as well as attract new customers.

RJio's triple cashback offers, which are for all Jio Prime members, include 100% cashback vouchers of Jio worth Rs 400 on every Jio tariff plan recharge of Rs 399 or above and instant cashback of up to Rs 300 on every recharge by Jio's partner wallets including leading digital payment wallets like AmazonPay, AxisPay, FreeCharge, Mobikwik, PayTM and PhonePe.

Jio Prime is a membership for customers who have joined Jio and enrolled for Jio Prime at a one-time annual membership fee of Rs 99.

Users will also get vouchers from e-commerce partners including AJIO, Yatra.com and RelianceTrends.com. The AJIO voucher will get customers Rs 399 off on a minimum purchase of Rs 1,500 at ajio.com. Similarly, Jio Prime customers can get a discount of Rs 1,000 on all round-trip domestic flight tickets booked through yatra.com and a discount of Rs 500 on one-way tickets.

Finally, shopping at reliancetrends.com entitles Jio Prime customers to an instant discount of Rs 500 for purchases worth Rs 1,999 and above.

The cashback redemption availability will have three categories -- the Jio cashback vouchers worth Rs 400 (Rs 50 x 8) will be provided instantly in MyJio, for redemption from November 15, 2017; the instant cashback from partner wallets will be credited to user wallets instantly and the e-commerce vouchers will be available from November 20, 2017, onwards.

Bharti Airtel has announced new postpaid and prepaid plans bundled with free domestic voice calls, national roaming calls, data rollover facility and subscription of Airtel apps – Wynk music and Airtel TV. These postpaid plans under Infinity plan range from Rs 399-Rs 999. Similarly, Vodafone and Idea have also announced such plans.

The operators are facing a pressure on their margins since the entry of RJio in the telecom sector. But, it has brought good news for users who are enjoying low data tariffs and free voice calls. The consolidation spree in the recent months has changed the landscape of the telecom sector from 12 players in 2010 to 5-6 currently. Experts say three private players and one telecom PSU--BSNL/MTNL--will survive in this highly competitive market in near future.
