How many times it has happened that because of an unconfirmed train ticket, there is much of a nervousness than excitement for the upcoming journey?

But soon that could be changed. According to a report in the Times of India, passengers with unconfirmed AC-I or AC-II tickets for the Rajdhani Express could soon opt to fly with Air India instead, after paying the price difference, if there is any.

AC-II fares for Rajdhani Express are almost equivalent to air fares and if, customers don't book the tickets in advance than it becomes really difficult to get a seat in Rajdhani trains.

However, if the newspaper report becomes the reality than it will be a relief to many travellers.

The Chairman of the Railway Board, Ashwani Lohani, said that the railways would accept this proposal if Air India approaches them with the mentione plan.

Lohani was appointed the chairman of the Railway Board on August 23 after the incumbent A K Mital resigned from the position.

In August, Indian Railway Service officer Ashwani Lohani was named Chairman of the Railway Board, following the resignation of incumbent AK Mittal.

Mittal, who was appointed for a two-year term, resigned in the wake of last week's train derailment in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, in which at least 23 persons were killed.

Rajiv Bansal, Additional Secretary in the Petroleum Ministry, has been given the interim charge of CMD of Air India.

Meanwhile last month, the Indian Railways gave a Diwali gift to passengers travelling from Mumbai to Delhi by launching a special Rajdhani train between the two cities.

The new Rajdhani train would cut short the travelling time between the national capital and financial capital of India.

Currently, there are two Rajdhani Express trains -the August Kranti Rajdhani and the Mumbai Central New Delhi Rajdhani, which run between Delhi to Mumbai.
Both of them take more than 15 hours to cover the distance between Mumbai and the Delhi.

While the August Kranti Rajdhani takes around 17 hours to reach New Delhi, the Mumbai Central-New Delhi takes around 15 hours at an average speed of 89 kmph, to travel 1386 km.
