The festival of colours - Holi is just round the corner. Whenever we talk about Holi in Bollywood, one can't help going back to the Holi celebration during the times of the late legend Raj Kapoor. We're talking about the famous Holi at RK Studios, which began with Prithviraj Kapoor and went on till the times of Raj Kapoor.
The entire film fraternity would wait for the Rk Studios' holi bash. All those who were able to make it to RK Studios' Holi were considered to be big stars. Popular actors like Nargis, Vaijayanti Mala, Hema Mailini, Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, Dilip Kumar, Jeetendra, Rakesh Roshan, Manoj Kumar, Zeenat Aman, Mithun Chakraborty, Anil Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Sridevi, Rakhi, Shatrughan Sinha, Rekha and the likes were more or less always a part of the Holi bash at RK Studios.
While all the big names made it to the Holi bash, there was one superstar who never attended RK Stusios' Holi celebrations. It was none other than Dev Anand.
Now, before you jump on to conclusions thinking whether he was upset with anyone in the Kapoor khaandaan, let us tell you the real reason why Dev Anand never made it to the do. Turns out that Anand was not upset with anyone. It so happened that he didn't like to play Holi at all and that's why he never attended RK Studios' Holi party.
Neither Dev Anand made it to the bah nor did Raj Kapoor ever insist him to come. On the day of Holi, a group of transgenders used to visit Raj Kapoor who would play holi and celebrate with them in the evening. All the guests used to get a chance to display their talent at the gathering.
Amitabh Bachchan, who was going through a rough patch in his career back then, was asked to do the same. Guess what Big B did? He sang the song Rang Barse and made sure that everyone else had a great time. Laer on, the same song was used in Yash Chopra's film Silsila in Big B's own voice.
The popular tradition of Holi at RK Studios came to an end with the sad demise of Raj Kapoor in 1988.
