Hockey player and ex-captain of the Indian National team Sandeep Singh's biopic Soorma, has created quite a stir. Directed by Shaad Ali, the film stars Diljit Dosanjh, Taapsee Pannu and Angad Bedi in pivotal roles.

Soorma traces the story of International hockey player Sandeep Singh (played by Diljit), who was paralyzed and wheel-chair bound for two years after he got injured because of an accidental gunshot in 2006.

Overcoming all odds, Sandeep once again stood tall and made a comeback on turf in 2008. Under his captaincy in 2009, India won Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, and also qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Soorma is another movie in a string of biopics that are going to release this year and is also being compared with Akshay Kumar's Gold (based on true historical events) because they both find grounds in hockey.

From the looks of it, the Bengali babu in Gold and Punjabi munda in Soorma have completely inhabited their characters, and looks like they are all set to give their best performances so far, but is Diljit Dosanjh worried about the comparison?

"He is a superstar and his work is appreciated by all. People vouch for his commendable work. I, on the other hand, have just started. There can't be a comparison because he is a star, and I, a fresher," the Udta Punjab actor said.

And what does he have to say about this trend of biopics? Will it last?

"This trend must last. It is a good thing if it does. People should know about all the people who in some way or the other inspire us. Inspiring stories are needed," Diljit said.

But a lot of controversies surround biopics. A biographical film, many-a-times hurts sentiments, and people then try to stall the releases of such films. Any message for the troublemakers?

"Lots of love from my side," said Diljit who is widely known for being uber humble and soft-spoken.

Soorma is slated to release on July 13.
