After Thursday tremors, Saturday brought some relief for Salman Khan. The Bollywood superstar, who was convicted in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case and given a five-year prison sentence (on April 5), was granted bail yesterday afternoon, on two bonds of Rs 50,000 each. Predictably, the film fraternity was pleased with this development. Producer Ramesh Taurani, who is collaborating with Salman on Race 3 (which they are jointly producing), said, “It’s a relief for the industry, we’re all happy with this development.” When asked about the pending shoot for the upcoming Eid release, he said, “Picturein toh bante rehti hai. But it’s not just about our one film. We’re happy that Salman is out. As for our movie, only a song is remaining. We will be shooting it here later this month.”

After this pacy thriller, the actor is said to begin Dabangg 3 and the third season of his television show Dus Ka Dum, which goes on air this June. The court allowed suspension of the sentence while his appeal against his conviction is pending. The court also added the condition that Salman cannot leave the country without its permission. Moreover, he has been directed to appear in person on May 7 in the appellate court for hearing on his appeal against conviction and sentence.

At the time of going to press, reports indicated that Salman would be out of Jodhpur Central Jail by 7 pm and head back to Mumbai. While Preity Zinta had flown to the Rajasthan city to pay him a visit in prison, his industry friends and colleagues were waiting for his return so that they could meet him at his home. Galaxy Apartments in Bandra, where the actor resides, had a huge crowd of fans and mediapersons waiting outside.
