2018 turned out to be fruitful for filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali whose magnum opus Padmavati will release on January 25 as Padmavat. The film, earlier slated for release on December 1 last year, has been caught in midst of a controversy for the longest time now for allegedly distorting historical facts.

After being marred by a huge controversy and violent protests, the film got a U/A certificate from Central Board of Film Certification with CBFC's examining committee suggesting five modifications. Apart from changing the film's title, the modifications included disclaimer that does not claim historical accuracy, modifications in the song 'Ghoomar' to make the depiction befitting the character being portrayed, correcting incorrect/misleading references to historical places, and a disclaimer that says the film doesn't subscribes to the practice of Sati or seeks to glorify it.

As the fans rejoice that the film is all set to release, who would have thought that one of the modifications listed by CBFC resulted in 300 cuts from the film. Yes, you heard it right.

A report in Mumbai Mirror suggests that all the references in the film to Mewar, Delhi and Chittor will be cut. If the report is to be believed, the audience will never know whence Alauddin Khilji came from and where he went to battle. As SLB and his team are working round-the-clock to re-edit the film in order to adhere to the "modifications", it will certainly be baffling for the audience to watch the film and not know where this bravery drama took place.

Everything said and done, the film which stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh essaying the role of Rani Padmavati aka Padmini, Maharawal Ratan Singh and Alauddin Khilji respectively, will hit the silver screen soon. Padmavat will clash with Akshay Kumar’s Padman at the box-office.
