Over 23,000 aspiring law students take test

Over 23,000 candidates took the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2011 for admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate courses at 11 premiere law schools across the country on Sunday.

This year, the exam is being organised by the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata. A total of 23,875 candidates had registered to appear for this exam, which is being held for the fourth time.

The entrance test enables students to seek admission in 11 national law universities — National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore; NALSAR, Hyderabad; NLIU, Bhopal; WBNUJS, Kolkata; NLU, Jodhpur; HNLU, Raipur; GNLU, Gandhinagar; RMLNLU, Lucknow; RGNUL, Patiala; CNLU, Patna and NUALS, Kochi.

The current year’s undergraduate entrance test  consisted of 200 questions for 200 marks. A few changes were introduced in the paper pattern from the last year in weightages: English (40 marks), General Knowledge or Current Affairs (50), Mathematics (20), Logical Reasoning (45), Legal Aptitude/Legal Awareness (45).

The postgraduate exam consisted of 100 questions for a mark each, and two essay type  questions for 50 marks each. The subjects included law of contracts, law of torts, criminal law, constitutional law and legal theory.

The results will be announced on May 28. This year, the centralised admission process will be held at the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata.
