Incubator catches fire in Andhra Pradesh; 3-day-old infant dies

A three-day-old infant was burnt to death when the incubator he was kept in caught fire at a private hospital in Andhra Pradesh's Adilabad district, police said today.

The fire was apparently caused due to an electric short-circuit in the early hours yesterday following which the baby boy kept in the incubator suffered burn injuries and died, they said.

The victim who was born in a nearby village was admitted in the private hospital in Mancherial town due to his poor health.

B Ramulu, father of the infant has filed a petition with the police following which a negligence case has been registered against the doctor who owns the hospital, a senior police officer told PTI, adding "We have questioned the doctor over the incident. However, no arrest has been made so far."

Meanwhile, sources said four other infants kept in the incubators in the hospital were discharged on Tuesday night.
