Police have exhumed the body of a youth who died on December 5, allegedly after getting injured during drag racing, to conduct postmortem and other legal procedures, while the roles of his parents and the city hospital that treated him have come under a cloud.

According to circle inspector HV Paramesh of Anugondanahalli, 22-year-old Salman Pasha, a native of Tirumashettihalli, was seriously injured when he met with an accident on December 4, on the Chikka Tirupathi Road, which falls within Tirumashettihalli police station limits.

His friends took him to VIMS hospital at Marathahalli for treatment, but he succumbed the next day. Paramesh said the hospital authorities handed over the body to Pasha’s relatives without informing the police.

Hence, the police have registered a case because as per the law, the hospital authorities should inform police when an accident case is admitted.

“They neither informed us when Pasha was admitted, nor after his death. They directly handed over the body to his relatives,” Paramesh said.

The police have booked the hospital for dereliction of duty under section 176 (Omission to give notice or information to public servant by person legally bound to give it) of Indian Penal Code, the circle inspector said.

Pasha’s parents too did not inform the police initially and conducted his last rites on December 5 itself. Pasha’s friends had told them that he died of a road accident.

Later on, his friends changed their version and told them that he was murdered and only then did Pasha’s parents approach the police.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and exhumed the body on Saturday in front of special tahasildar, Bimappa Handigondi.

The postmortem was done at Dr BR Ambedkar Medical College. The police hope to complete the legal procedures soon.

Pasha was reportedly passionate about motorcycle racing and had earned a lot of money in races.

He was well known for his drag-racing abilities. His parents now suspect that his rivals might be behind his murder.
