As the state government increases milk prices, dairy farmers in Bangalore will now get `2.60 more per litre on their produce. The Bangalore Milk Union Limited (BAMUL) has decided to raise the selling price of milk for dairy farmers to `22.60 per litre from the existing `20.

“The state government has increased the prices of milk as they felt that the farmers need to be benefited and we also feel the same. Currently, the framers get `20 per litre and we will give them `22.60 starting January 16 after Sankranti,” said Dibur Jayanna, president, BAMUL.

The cost of milk production has also considerably increased which is said to be the cause of this hike.
“In Mandya, farmers get `20.40 per litre and in Kolar they get `20.50. We are planning to give our farmers ` 22.60. There are 1,250 agents under BAMUL,” he said.

BAMUL has also increased production of milk by 10% in last one year.

“We used to get about 8, 85,000 kg of milk which has increased by 10 %. This became possible as the government has given the farmers subsidies and helped them financially,” he said.
The commission for agents has also been increased.  The agents will now get 3.1% to 4% commission which was only about 1% to 2 % earlier.

BAMUL is planning to expand their refrigeration and storage facilities as they have been increasing the production at a rapid rate.
