This Valentine, Bangalore to supply 50 lakh roses to other states

Floriculturists in the city are delighted with the demand for roses from several states such as AP, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal and Delhi.

On the eve of Valentine's Day, Bangalore city will transport nearly 50 lakh roses to other states. The flowers will be transported by Thursday, February 12, to mark the celebration of Valentine’s Day on February 14.

CG Nagaraju, managing director, International Flower Auction, Bangalore, speaking to iamin, informed that the farmers were encouraged to increase the acres under floriculture to 250 hectares as against 200, last year.

Speaking with iamin, Nagaraju said that floriculturists in the city are delighted with the demand for roses from several states such as Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal and Delhi. Nagaraju shared that in 2014, around 40 lakh roses were supplied to cities across India. He further said that the International Flower Auction Bangalore has received, on an average, one lakh roses per day between February 9 and 13 from floriculturists across Bangalore.

Bangalore is a city known for quality red roses, and hence the demand from other states on the occasion of Valentine's Day is growing every year.
