Senior Congress leader and leader of Opposition in the legislative assembly Siddaramaiah on Sunday said that the political system in the country has been disintegrated completely.

Speaking at the launch of the Shramik Aahar Yojana, Siddaramaiah said that society was in a way responsible for the present state of politics.

“The political system in the country has completely disintegrated. In people’s perception today, all politicians are thieves. But politicians alone should not be blamed, society too is responsible as it is the one who voted for these corrupt politicians,” he said.

Siddaramaiah also appealed to the voters to elect good representatives in the coming elections to cleanse the rotten political system. “Elect good representatives in the coming elections, else the democracy will not survive,” he said.

Former chief justice of India MN Venkatachalaiah said that preventive health care system in the country should be improved. He said that at present there was no preventive healthcare system in the country.

“People are made to fall ill and are given medication so that pharmaceutical companies and hospitals are benefited. If there is a proper preventive healthcare system then fewer people will fall ill,” he said.

The Shramik Aahar Yojana, which was launched by the Shramik Foundation, works on a no-profit no-loss basis, for providing a hygienic and nutritious lunch at an affordable price to relatively low paid workers employed in small-scale industries, garment units and at construction sites in and around Bangalore.

Former MLA and trade activist Michael B Fernandes said that about 1,000 workers will be covered in its first phase starting in about three months.
