Suspecting fidelity, a man murdered his wife by smashing her head with a stone in Suvarnanagar at the Peenya police station limits on Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as Mahadevamma, a resident of Suvarnanagar Fourth Cross. The police have arrested the accused Venkatesh, a mason, in this connection. The family hails from Mysore and the couple has three children.
Police said that Venkatesh came home drunk on Thursday night and had a quarrel with his wife. Following a heated argument, he slapped her and smashed her head with a stone. It is being alleged that Venkatesh was a habitual drunkard and was not giving money to his wife to run the house. This had led to a tiff between the couple.
"Also, it is being alleged that he suspected his wife's fidelity and that has led to the murder. We are investigating all the angles in the case," the Peenya police, who have registered a case, said.
