Unidentified miscreants made away with 4.200 kgs of gold worth around Rs 1.25 crore from a lodge in Chikpet police station limits.

The theft was reported in Hotel Supreme Deluxe lodge on Ranganathaswamy Temple Street in Chikpet on Saturday evening.
According to the police, the gold belonged to Hukum Singh and Sunil Singh, both natives of Mumbai, who runs 'Akash Ornaments'. Their business is to take orders for jewellery making by city jewellers and prepare the jewels in Mumbai and supply them. For the purpose, they had rented out a room on the fourth floor of the lodge from the last one year to store the gold safely.

"The duo was looking after the business and one, Vijay Kumar, was assisting them. Sunil had gone to Mumbai three days ago. On Saturday Hukum Singh along with Vijay had gone out to receive orders. Around 4.30 pm, the lodge staff found the room door open and informed Hukum Singh about it. He rushed back to the lodge to find that the gold was stolen," the police said.

"It is suspected that the miscreants committed the theft between 3 pm and 4 pm. Investigations revealed that the key of the room went missing about six months ago. However, they did not take it seriously and had started using an alternate key. It is suspected that the those who got the key are behind the theft. Also, the locker key was kept inside the room. The miscreants who entered the room easily opened the locker by using its original key and have escaped," the police explained.

The police are not ruling out the possibility of the involvement of lodge staff behind the incident. The police are also verifying the footage recorded by the CCTV camera installed at the reception.
Chikpet police have registered a case and are investigating.
