Karnataka State Election Commissioner PN Sreenivasachary on Thursday announced the dates for the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Council elections. As per the schedule of events, the BBMP commissioner would issue the notification on July 8 regarding the elections. The last date for filing nominations is July 15 and the last date for scrutiny of nominations will be July 16.

The last date for candidates withdrawing their nominations will be July 20 and the polling will be held on July 28. The date on which a re-poll, if necessary, will be taken is July 30 (between 7 am and 5 pm) and the counting of votes will commence from 8 am onwards within BBMP area on July 31 and the process of election would be completed by August 1.

According to a press release from the State Election Commission issued by Under Secretary Kavitharani R, the code of conduct would come into force with immediate effect and it would be in force till August 1 within BBMP limits. The total number of wards is 198 and the number of polling stations will be 6,733. There are 37, 38,808 male, 33, 82,231 female voters and 1,126 other voters in Bangalore who will be exercising their franchise on July 28. The total voter count is 71, 22,165.

The State Election Commission has appointed four district election officers, 28 additional district election officers, 53 returning officers, 53 additional returning officers, 198 assistant returning officers, 27 electoral registration officers, 63 assistant electoral registration officers, five special observers, 27 observers and 88 nodal officers for conducting elections to the BBMP Council.

As per Government Notification, Rs 5, 00,000 has been prescribed as the expenditure limit for the contesting candidates.
