While answering questions by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), Asaram Bapu’s daughter Bharti claimed ignorance about the fate of the girls sent to her father’s room at the Shanti Vatika ashram by her. Sources said she had claimed that she had taken the girls to Asaram for spiritual purposes only.

SIT has been questioning Bharti, Asaram’s wife Lakshmi and sadhika Dhruvi, who were granted anticipatory bail, in connection with the probe into the charges of rape slapped against the godman.  On Sunday, the trio came to the office of the Anti-Terrorist Squad on SG Highway to be quizzed by the SIT. During the interrogation, sources said Bharti had identified the rape victim and said that she used to stay in the ashram.

However, the quizzing had to stop after Lakshmi’s health deteriorated. So, the SIT asked the trio to reappear on Monday afternoon. On Monday, the trio arrived at the ATS office around 3:30 pm for interrogation. Sources said the officials had put a curtain and asked Lakshmi and Bharti to sit on one side and Asaram on the other.

Sources further revealed that Bharti admitted to have taken the rape victim and some other girls to Asaram. But she claimed to have taken them to her father for diksha (initiation) and lessons in mantra gyan. So, she does not know what happened to the girls.  Investigation also revealed that Lakshmi did neither co-operate nor reveal much during the session. Speculation is rife that Lakshmi did not have any idea or involvement in Asaram’s alleged wrongdoings.

Around 7 pm, police allowed Lakshmi and Bharti to go. But, they asked Dhruvi to stay back for some more questioning which lasted till 9 pm.  According to sources, Dhruvi denied her involvement in taking the girls for abortion. She claimed to have taken only four to five girls staying at the ashram for treatment to hospital, not for abortion. She even denied the allegations that the girls had been taken to hospital for abortion.

Asaram refuses to undergo potency test
Asaram was once again taken to Sola civil hospital on Monday by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for routine medical check-up. However, it is learned that the godman did not cooperate and refused to undergo potency tests. According to hospital officials, Asaram only allowed the doctors to check his health and refused to undergo potency test or Rigiscan test. It is expected that he will be once again produced in Gandhinagar court as his custody will be over on Tuesday. However, sources have revealed that the SIT will not demand further custody and will take him back to Jodhpur.
