Rain worsens situation in Navsari & Bharuch districts

Incessant downpour worsened the situation in Bharuch and Navsari districts on Wednesday. While many areas were flooded, several villages in both districts became inaccessible with rivers being in spate. District administration formed teams to distribute relief and evacuate people.

Rainfall inundated seven villages in Gandevi taluka of Navsari district on Wednesday. Three ponds at Vijalpore town overflowed and entered adjoining residential areas.

District collector Sandhya Bhullar said the situation was returning to normal and Rs50 lakh has been released for relief work.

Due to heavy rain in the catchment area, Sardar Sarovar dam in Bharuch district overflowed, increasing the water level of Narmada. All low-lying areas of Bharuch and Ankleshwar town remained submerged for the second day as well and another 8,000 people were shifted to safer areas on Wednesday.

Downpour continues in Surat, South Gujarat
Heavy rain continued to pound Surat and South Gujarat on Wednesday, too. As intensity in the Tapi catchment area reduced, inflow into the Ukai dam came down to 1,04,000 cusecs on Wednesday and outflow 1.12 lakh cusecs.

Water level of the dam was 342.16 feet.  While Navsari district recorded 64 mm rain, Dangs district received 42 mm.

Tapi district 30 mm and Valsad 20 mm.
