The India Meteorology Department (IMD) has warned of heatwave conditions at several places across the state in the next three days. The city is already sizzling with the mercury going up. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature was four degrees above normal. The mercury touched the 42 degree Celsius mark, making it the second hottest day of the year so far.

According to IMD data, currently the northwesterly winds are prevailing across the state. These winds blow from the dry and hot state of Rajasthan. It further stated that heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at isolated pockets in the districts of Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Ahmedabad, Kutch, Porbandar, Surendranagar and Amreli.
According to IMD, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 42 degree Celsius today, while the minimum temperature will be around 23 degree Celsius.
The temperature dipped in parts of Saurashtra and rose in parts of Kutch. There was no large change in the Gujarat region.
Across the state, Surendranagar recorded the highest maximum temperature which was 42.5 degree Celsius. The lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Naliya which was 19.3 degree Celsius.
The scorching sun and sudden rise in temperature has left many citizens restless. "We cannot move out during day time and feel like drinking water and cold beverages constantly," said Shayma Pandya, a resident of Jivrajpark.
