The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized imported goods worth Rs 20 crore on Monday. The goods were imported under Foreign Trade and Ware Housing Zone (FTWHZ) scheme.

In a press release on Monday, DRI stated that the said scheme was launched by the Union government so that Indian businessman could import and export goods and make good deals in foreign currency.

Instead, the agency found that Delhi M/s Zip Zap Exim Pvt Ltd, along with its other associates, were importing goods and were not exporting and selling them the domestic market. By doing so, they were indulging in huge import duty evasion scam.

A team comprising staff from DRI and other agencies carried out searches at the said importer's Delhi and Gandhidham premises and other associates in Mumbai, Ahmedabad for three consecutive days. The team of officials recovered discriminating documents in volumes, revealing how the scam was run.
