Three hundred and twenty seven students across various disciplines of the National Institute of Design were left disappointed at their 38th convocation when they learnt that the chief guest, former President of India Pranab Mukherjee, could not be present physically because of his illness.

Delivering a speech, Naushad Forbes, Chairperson, NID Governing Council, said, "The Governing Council of NID had not invited Pranab Mukherjee as he is one of the most distinguished politicians. But, we sought him as an exemplary president."

"As graduating students, you need to ensure how do we bring great traditions and designs from the past and apply them in modern design to create a new future for us as a society. Can we create great design led companies. I hope many of you new graduates will be a part of this project of bringing great design to entrepreneurship and great crafts to modern industry. It is that can enable us to scale and impact in the world."

Interestingly, this year, the exhibition of the project and the work of students displayed caught peoples attention, with their topics being contemporary.

A textile design students graduation project was to introduce hand painted Batik to the differently abled artisans. Whereas, the film of an animation design student captured the influence of media on the mindset of our society and focussed how women are led to deal with their weight.
