Marriage of destitute girls likely in Dec-Jan; Gruh officials verify grooms' details

Yes, destiny has smiled upon five destitute girls of marriageable age in Surat’s Nari Sanrakshan Gruh and you’ll be amazed how! The five girls received an overwhelming response to their ad and some 550-odd proposals from suitors across the country have flooded the gruh — turning out to be a headache for the girls and the officials of the home! However, officials are scanning all proposals to choose the best men.
“Proposals will be scrutinised and the ones shortlisted will be called for meeting. We will show pictures of selected grooms to the girls and after they show interest in the candidate, a meeting will be fixed. If their meeting is successful, it will get translated in marriage,” said Rupal Shah, chairman of Nari Sanrakshan Gruh.
She added that proposal has been forwarded to state social security department for final nod. If everything goes accordingly, the girls will be married in December 2013 or January 2014. Though all five girls are homeless, the grooms-to-be have to fulfill various criteria before tying the nuptial knot. For example they have to be not more than 28 years of age, should have good and permanent source of income, have strong family background, should be qualified, not involved in any criminal case and should have clean image in society. That’s not all. The grooms will also have to undergo medical tests before marriage.
To prevent any hardships post marriage, we check following parameters of proposed groom. If necessary, we even visit work-place and house of the groom,” said CG Patel, superintendent of Nari Sanrakshan Gruh. According to Patel, 13 girls from the gruh have been married so far and all are well-settled in their lives.
