Entrepreneurship is a mindset that can be developed by any professional who aspires to become an employer.

This was the idea put forth by associate faculty, Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI), Ahmedabad, Ramkrishna Mistry, at a recent press conference in the city.

While announcing the launch of two new postgraduate diploma courses at EDI, Mistry said, “Our observation over the years at EDI is that the reason for entrepreneurial success is not only access to finance. One should also have the motivation for achievement, skills of recognising opportunity, apart from carrying out a market survey, knowing how to prepare a detailed project report, along with procedures and formalities of establishing a business and managing an enterprise. We emphasise on these six points through the courses at EDI.”

Head of the business development cell, EDI, Nikhilesh Desai, said that the new two-year courses approved by the All India Council of Technical Education are PG diploma in management- development sector & social entrepreneurship (PGDM-DS & SE) and PG diploma in management- business entrepreneurship (PGDM-BE).

Designed to address the current role of NGOs in development, Desai said that the course in social entrepreneurship course will also facilitate students to play multifaceted roles of manager, trainer, teacher, advisor, consultant and counsellor in the NGO sector.

The other course offers specialisation in entrepreneurship areas of family business management, agri-entrepreneurship, tourism entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education.

Available as residential and non-residential programmes, there will be 120 seats for the PGDM-BE course and 60 for the PGDM-DS & SE course. The selection criteria for applicants will be their scores at CAT, MAT and XAT examinations, the entry-level aptitude test and the personal interview. Last date for submission of applications for both programmes is February 18.

Established in 1983 to promote entrepreneurship, EDI is a joint initiative of the Gujarat government, Industrial Development Bank of India, ICICI, Industrial Financial Corporation of India and State Bank of India.
