Gionee launches the S8 at MWC 2016 with 3D Touch Display and Dual WhatsApp

The Chinese mobile phone manufacturer,  Gionee launched the S8 at MWC 2016, with a metal design, 3D touch display (drawing inspiration from the iPhone) and dual WhatsApp and WeChat.

The Gionee S8 will go on sale by the end of March--priced at EUR 449 (roughly Rs. 34,000)--in  Silver, Rose Gold and other Gold colours.

The phone boasts the same 3D touch display technology as the iPhone. The pressure sensitive display allows for different functions depending on how much pressure is applied to the screen. The phone will allow for three types of force sensitive actions: Tap to preview, touch and to select and press/hold to open.

The smartphone has a “loop full-metal design” with an AMOLED 5.5-inch screen and 2.5D glass at a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels and 400ppi.

It will also have a 16MP rear camera which the company says has fast double focus with laser and PDAF focus. It will also feature text recognition software--converting photos into text. There are also video recording features like time lapse and Slow motion and an 8-megapixel front camera for selfies.

The phone will be rigged with a MediaTek Helio P10 processor with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of inbuilt storage and powered by a 3,000mAh battery. It will run on Amigo 3.2 OS based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and weighs 148 grams

The phone will also have a fingerprint scanner, dual-SIM (Micro-SIM) functionality and dual WhatsApp and dual WeChat which means that users will be able to access two Whatsapp and WeChat accounts on the same smartphone.
