The World Health Organisation (WHO) and Internation Suicide Prevention Association have announced September 10 as the World Suicide Prevention Day across the globe, as millions of people battle depression and suicidal thoughts every day.

Suicide is something that can be extremely traumatic and disturbing for people who decided to take this step and their families. To raise awareness about mental health and how to battle and overcome suicidal tendencies, World Suicide Prevention Day 2021 is being observed today.

There is a lot of social stigmas attached to mental health and suicidal tendencies, which is why a lot of people don’t ask for help when they are going through something tough. Some of the early warning signs of suicidal tendencies that one should look out for in their loved ones-

  • Increasing the use of alcohol or drugs
  • Acting anxious, agitated, or reckless
  • Sleeping too little or too much
  • Withdrawing or feeling isolated
  • Showing rage or talking about seeking revenge
  • Displaying extreme mood swings
  • Talking about feeling hopeless or having no purpose
