Pakistan has announced to set up a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) air-mix plant in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B). Pakistan?s new Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that this plant will benefit around 10,000 energy consumers.

Gilgit-Baltistan has suffered acute power shortage in recent years. With a rapid growth of population and increasing number of consumers; load shedding and power breakdowns are a routine and results in disruption of normalcy in life at the region.

Earlier, in March this year, Pakistan government had announced to set up 60 LPG plants in far-flung areas of Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir to provide gas to consumers, adding that one plant would be set up in each zone of these areas.

Abassi during his tenure as the Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources asserted that the PML-N government will end load shedding by the end of this year. He was quoted saying, ?The PML-N government will announce complete elimination of loadshedding in November this year,? at the 2nd conference on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) at March earlier this year.

The recent meeting with Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman at the Prime Minister?s Office, Abbasi said the LPG plant would significantly reduce the consumption of forest wood, The Express Tribune reported.

PM Abbasi in his briefing stated that the government was resoluted to ensure socio-economic growth of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Chief Minister Rehman while congratulating PM Abbasi on assuming his office also extended an invitation to visit Gilgit-Baltistan. The CM further updated him about the ongoing development of the territory.
