According to CNN, AirAsia said it will provide about 100,000 dollars in compensation for each passenger on the plane. That's in addition to 24,000 dollars already offered to victims' families.

An AirAsia spokesperson said that the company will follow Indonesia's Transport Ministry's regulations, according to which air travel companies are required to pay a compensation of 1.3 million Indonesian rupiah (98,000 dollars) for deaths caused by aviation accidents, the report said.

The tail of the doomed AirAsia Flight QZ8501 that crashed into the Java Sea has been recovered by Indonesian search teams. Indonesian search and rescue chief Bambang Soelistyo told the press in Jakarta that the team had "successfully obtained" the tail of the plane that had been their target. He said that he was sure of the discovery after seeing photographs of the underwater wreckage, on which the company logo can be seen, reported News.com.au.

The finding is vital and could mark a breakthrough in the search operation as the tail of a plane usually houses the " black box " flight data recorders, crucial to determining the cause of a crash.

Only 16 bodies have been identified so far after the aircraft went down during a flight from Surabaya to Singapore on 28 December with 162 people on board.
