The massive data leak ahead of Game of Thrones season seven must have made HBO take any measure possible to stop that from happening again. This is why it should not come as a surprise when Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister on the show, revealed that the cast is not even getting the script for the season eight.

According to a report in Associated Press, Coster-Waldau was speaking on the Scandinavian chat show Skavlan when he revealed the unprecedented measures being taken by the showrunners.

He said that for initial seasons the cast got the run-of-the-mill hardbound scripts. Later on, to tighten the security, they got digital files. After that, they moved on to getting the script only on verified email accounts.

Earlier this year, the hackers stole various show files including episodes of other HBO properties like Insecure, Ballers, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. They also leaked personal information of the cast and crew of Game of Thrones. And demanded a ransom of several million dollars for not leaking the episodes online. (The episodes got out because of other reasons is a different story)

To prevent that from happening again, according to Coster-Waldau, the actors on the set are provided earpieces and are fed their dialogues line by line!

"We’re not even going to get the script," he said.

Season eight of the series based on George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels has begun production. No official release date for it has been announced by HBO.

Many fan-favourite directors are returning to take charge of film-length episodes on the season including David Nutter (directed 'The Rains of Castamere') and Miguel Sapochnik (directed 'Battle of the Bastards').

The series is also getting five spin-offs which are currently at development phase.
